Safe Grounds.
Sometimes, for some reason, people assume the moral high ground when they're questioned and when they're asked to share their own opinions on highly sensitive matter. For some reason, they like to have the "right" opinions, opinions that wouldn't be misunderstood. They like telling us what they think we would like to hear. Diplomatic, safe answers that allows them to play in very safe grounds. Of course, nothing wrong with any of this, but why bother giving me an answer if you are not being honest in the first place?
Hello there, I'm the Earthian.
Fortunately or unfortunately, it's pretty evident when people do this, this diplomatic answer thing. I mean, what's the worst that could happen with them sharing their honest and true opinions? It's not like we're looking to publicize their opinions on posters all across the town, which by the bye, would be hilarious. It's really not like we're going to judge them by their answers either.
However, people like being as honest as they can be with mild and easy going topics. Topics like the hot new restaurant in town or the brand new movie. Maybe it gives them a sense of comfort, a scene where they don't have to be vulnerable, a situation where, no matter what they are, their opinions wouldn't put them in a fix. And of course, there's no question of losing face here for these topics don't demand any dignity to be put on the line.
It's all funny though, because the more I try to understand us, the more I try to understand human beings, the more complicated they get. I know, maybe I shouldn't even bother doing it, but then again, I don't want to miss out on those few who are willing to be vocal.
Lots of love, peace.
