His Misfortune.

Every time he invested too much time on someone, something that never failed to happen is him being taken for granted by them. The more time he invested in them, the less valuable he became to them and he somehow failed to understand the reason behind this concept.

And this is one of the reasons he decided to no longer invest time in people. Because honestly, all of this was just too much pain for him for no apparent reason. He doesn't spend time with people because he has to. Every single person he chose to spend time with was someone he'd give his very best to and to see that being taken for granted, to get spat on his face (figuratively, of course, but feels the same nevertheless), to get used the way he did get used, was just totally not worth it.

Maybe he started to understand the concept. He thought to himself that the same thing usually happened with all of the materialist things. First we love them, we get excited by them but when enough time passes, we barely recognize the value behind them. While he did understand this, this just wasn't very convincing for him.

The problem was the fact that he was no gadget, he was no materialistic thing with no life. He unfortunately happened to be alive and he unfortunately happened to be someone with feelings. He unfortunately happened to be sensitive and he so dang unfortunately has come to the conclusion of shutting himself off emotionally. Maybe it's too much of him to not want people to take him for granted and maybe nobody will ever stick around with him because of this reason but it was a risk he was willing to take. Because he could always bet on himself, count on himself.

It still hurt him though, to see the world work this way and to see everyone give in to this chaos. It really is unfortunate he was as sensitive as he was, I guess.
