Habit vs Addiction
It's really interesting how people confuse addiction with habit. I mean, the two are really very, very different. Let's see how.
Hello there, The Earthian here!
Okay, I'll start off with how I understand the words. An addiction is doing something regularly, spontaneously and often unknowingly with or without interest.
It is most often associated with "pleasurable" activities, like smoking, doing drugs and so on.
A habit is doing something regularly, WITH interest, care and passion. It is something we do because we enjoy doing it.
A good example of a habit is working out regularly.
Keep in mind that both habit and addiction are sometimes synonymous because both of them are involuntary.
We do both of them sub-consciously.
That's exactly why people confuse one with the other.
Now, my point is, you can always kick out a bad habit by replacing it with other habits. But you cannot kick out an addiction because it is you that has done the "hard" work to get hooked, addicted. You have put in the effort to get the pleasure out of your act enough times that you now call yourself an addict to that action. That's how simple it is.
No one says "He has a habit of using drugs.". Everyone says "He's a drug addict.". Get me?
Bad habits are often associated with addiction. But then again, what's good and what's bad? Who is going to decide that? It's your choices.
See, deep inside, it's only you that knows who you truly are. It's up to you to see the right answer. It's up to you understand. One thing that is common to both habit and addiction is the fact that you choose to do either one of them, for the first time. It is you that chose to brush your teeth twice a day. It is you that chose to take the first puff of a cigarette.
There you go. Hope I made some sense. Lots of love, peace.
