The Force.
What stops most of us from pushing ourselves to the extremes, is the false sense of reality and the false sense of satisfaction and comfort that we have built for ourselves. Think about it. Everytime you start doing something with force, there arises a thought in your head, along the lines "Do I need it? Do I really need whatever I'm doing? Do I need to follow my passion? Because where I am right now is a perfectly fine. I'm perfectly comfortable with where I am now and what I have now."
Hello again, I'm the Earthian.
And for the most of us, everytime this thought arises, the force that we had, pretty much just vanishes. Because our logical brain comes into the action and starts thinking "Yeah, why should I do those things that I planned to do? It's not like I'm in the gutter right now, is it?". And that's when we quit doing what we do and continue with the "routine" that we have. The craving to do the activity though, never vanishes.
Enough time passes and we'll have zero percentage of that force that is needed for us to actually start working. Because everytime that we start and end it abruptly, the amount of force that we have gets reduced. To keep the force alive, it needs to be fondled, caressed, nurtured, protected and treasured. And what we generally do is basically throw it away into the bin.
Once the force gets depleted though, what will be left is regret. And lots of it. So much that we'll die to have the opportunity to start over, but that is just not how life works.
Do not ever be your own barrier. Do not be the dog that lost it's treat to it's own mirror image. That's the best way I can put it.
Lots of love, peace!
